During the course of our lives, many of us experience significant challenges which temporarily or chronically derail us, compromising our sense of wellbeing and efficacy. At such times symptoms of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, sleep disturbances and others may surface. Such challenges are viewed by Jung as life’s way of calling us to reexamine our attitudes and how we live.
Jung views the psyche as containing a self-regulating function that resides in our dreams. If we learn the symbolic language of our dreams we discover a way of realigning ourselves upon a stronger, healthier foundation.
For Jung, analysis is a catalyst towards psychological maturation and renewal. Psychological maturation, though a task that challenges us daily, is an ongoing goal to pursue throughout life.
